Let's read the Bible!

BROUGHT BACK FROM THE DEAD!

The Bible is full of brilliant stories! This week we are going to read the story of a little girl who was brought back from the dead! Read the story in the Bible. You will find it in Matthew 9:18-26. If you would like to read it on this website click on the picture.

It's all about a little twelve year-old girl who became very ill and died. There was no hope and her family were heart broken. There was only one person in the whole world who may be able to help. Jairus, the girl's father had heard about Him from his friends. He had heard that a man called Yahshua (Jesus in our language) was making sick people better, and that He could even perform miracles!
When his little girl became very ill Jairus went out to try and find Yahshua. When he found Him and told Him about his little girl, Yahshua (Jesus) promised to help. On the way however, a lady came to be healed and there was a delay.
Sadly while this was happening Jairus heard that his little daughter had died! To his surprise though, Yahshua (Jesus) still went with him to see her. Even more surprising was that Yahshua (Jesus) spoke to the dead body of his child and she opened her eyes and became alive again! How neat was that!
Yahshua (Jesus) can not only heal sick people, but He has power over death, and can make dead people live again! What a wonderful day for Jairus' family, and especially for his little girl.

Learn something new!

Did you know that when Jesus was here He was called Yahshua? Well of course He was, He was Jewish!

"Yahshua" is pronounced "Yah-shu-a" Can you say it? "Yah" is the true name of God. We will teach you all about it in another time. "Shua" means "Saviour" in Hebrew, (the language spoken in Israel where Yahshua (Jesus) was born), and so "Yah (God) - shua (Saviour)" simply means, Yah the Saviour, and it is true, Yahshua was (and still is of course) God's Son, who came to be our Saviour! Simple! Show off to your friends that you know some Hebrew!

LEARN SOME MORE!

Now, for those older ones who would like to learn a little more about our story...
On His way to heal Jairus’ daughter, Yahshua (Jesus) was walking along and crowds of people were following him. Because he had healed so many people, everyone pressed close to him in the hope of touching him and being healed of their sicknesses and diseases.
Among the crowds there was a lady who had a horrible sickness which she had had for a very long time. Her body was always bleeding. She pushed through the crowd and touched the 'hem' of his garment. (This word "hem" in the original Hebrew means the 'tallit' or the tassels which Jewish people wear on their clothes. Read the notes about the 'hem' at the bottom.) Here on the right is a picture of a modern one today) When the lady touched the 'tallit' or hem of Yahshua's (Jesus') coat she was healed. This was because she really believed that He was special and that He had come from God, and that He could make her better. This lady had faith. Faith means to trust and believe in. The lady trusted and believed in Jesus, and she believed that if she could touch His garment, or 'tallit' she would be healed, and made better from her illness, and she was!
After this happened, the ruler of a synagogue (a place of worship) came to Jesus in the hope that he would heal his dying daughter. About the same time he approached Jesus, some people from his house came to tell him the bad news. His daughter had already died, and there was no reason to bother Yahshua (Jesus) about it. The Bible says that as soon as Yahshua (Jesus) heard this he told Jairus, “Be not afraid, only believe.”Yahshua took Peter, James, and John with him to Jairus' house. The people were wailing and crying because the little twelve-year-old girl was dead. Jesus asked them why they were weeping because he said the girl was not dead, but only sleeping. The people all laughed at Jesus because they knew she was dead. So Yahshua (Jesus) took the parents into the room with Peter, James, and John. Jesus took the little girl by the hand and said, "Talitha cumi." This meant, "Little girl, arise".
Do you know what happened next? The little girl arose from the dead! Jesus had called her back to life! Because Yahshua (Jesus) is the Son of God, he can do anything. How wonderful for the little girl to open her eyes and see Jesus! As you might imagine, Jairus' family was astonished at what happened. Yahshua (Jesus) told them to not tell anyone what happened and to give her something to eat.

Note about the "hem" of Yahshua's (Jesus') garment which the lady touched. Jewish people used to wear a 'tallit' or a kind of tassel in obedience to a commandment in the Old Testament. They were to wear them to help them to remember the laws in the Bible. (You will find the commandment about wearing them in the Book of Numbers, chapter 15 and verse 37-40. You will find the book of Numbers in the Old Testament.) Many Jewish men still wear them today and some of them have made them into ‘prayer shawls’ which they use when they pray. You can see a picture of one above.
